Tips to Dealing with a Disposable Culture

This past two weeks we have watched Hotel RwandaI and have read articles about disposable people. I have seen people treat my little sister as disposable, because of her Down syndrome. I know how people think about others with special needs, because they feel like they aren’t worth anything or they think they are different. I have meet so many people with special needs and they are so kind and loving. I have never like how people think of others that aren’t like them. Seeing the movie was hard, they were treating people bad because they weren’t the same.

Reading about how people dispose of things so easily really hit me, because I do the same thing. I get so many clothes that I don’t need, just because I want them and through them away when I don’t like them anymore. I throw away so much food because I’m full, when there are so many starving people in the world. I don’t take care of the earth, I litter and uses things that I don’t need to, that are harmful to the world. I treat people bad because I don’t like them or they haven’t done things I have. With that I also don’t treat the elderly with the respect that I should, they have done so much for us, yet I don’t do anything for them.

Finally I think that everyone has different ideas of what disposability is. I think of it with food, clothes, and people. Others might think of it as money, relationships, or even animals. I think that I know have a better understanding of what disposability is and how it effects me. I also now know who I can prevent it or do something else about it.
