Where I’m From

This is a poem that I did, based off of George Ella Lyon’s Where I’m From.

I am from blankets,

I’m from crayola and disney

From long road trips and movie nights

I am from the kitchens of my grandmas,

(simple, antique, endless food)

I’m from the backyard pine tree

sitting high, escaping life

From Barretts and Banksons

I am from the loud mouths

and the eavesdroppers

I’m from the “be good girls” and

“don’t hit your sister”

From Lincoln and Scottsbluff

I am from sunrise service and

Christmas programs

I’m summer sweet corn and fall pies

From irrigating with my grandparents

always leaving covered in mud

I am from the determination my sister

shows every day of her life

The bookshelf packed tight with

photo albums,

That flood my head with memories,

and I will be forever be grateful
